Capstone was established in 1989 by its current owner and president, M. Daniel Smith.  As the founder and owner of several companies ranked on the Inc. 500 list of America’s fastest-growing privately held companies, including a diversified $78 million company with eight subsidiaries in seven states, Dan’s success in business growth and strategic acquisitions attracted numerous small- to medium-sized investment banks.  But none offered the real-life business experience, operational expertise or industry knowledge required to meet his needs.  Surveying his business owner peers, Dan learned that many shared his frustration.

Seeing an opportunity, Dan set out to create an investment banking firm that offered middle market companies the financial help they needed, coupled with business savvy and sensitivity.  Several months after selling his largest company in 1987, Capstone Financial Group was born.  Dan has since built Capstone into the world’s highest-producing boutique M&A advisory firm for the automotive industry.

Today, Capstone offers owners of middle market companies a unique understanding of business issues and concerns. So unlike other investment banking firms, Capstone can offer practical advice and guidance for achieving a business owner’s goals—whether it’s obtaining capital to grow, selling a company, making a strategic acquisition, or determining the future course of a business.
